Sign seeking

We've seen some great signs lately. The above was at Ephesus in Turkey. We did go into the shop to investigate, and in case any of you were wondering (not that it isn't obvious), they were more fake than genuine. The next is a favorite too. It was at Blake's Lotaburger in Albuquerque. I can't decide which is more egregious: the subject/verb disagreement or the rampant unnecessary apostrophes. (credit to Bob for the photography)
In the UK if a road sign has something inside a red circle, it's a prohibition. Getting onto the below road, I guess I'm not allowed to be riding a bike or a horse, OR be a time traveler.

(I'd be curious to know whether this was done by a feminist making a statement about women and skirts, or by a guy who had to go and didn't want to wait for a vacancy in the men's room. I'd like to think it was the former. Either way, it was in Marmaris, Turkey.)

It's a sign!

We did have an unfortunate frog encounter
Saturday--where was this sign when we needed it?
(Jacob: "We think he [rib]bit the dust.")

Jacob: "what the %&#@ am I supposed to do now?"

It may seem unnecessary to have a business dedicated to equine laundry,
but you have to remember that horses wear clothes in England.

This one's dedicated to Nick
who enjoyed this sign in the Tube stations in London.

I might be the only person who finds this funny, but it's a directional
sign telling me where to find trees. It's in the middle of the forest.
Where trees are abundant. Particularly to the right...?

We like this sign because apparently in Spain it has to be indicated on
every little piece of grass whether fĂștbol is allowed.

This sign is next to a fountain.
Jacob: "The water doesn't scare me; the lightening bolt to the groin does."

A comical translation attempt at a gift shop in Jordan.

This one's at Petra where
scenes from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade were filmed.

Logic Lane is an actual street in Oxford. I'm going to start invoking
it when someone's grasp of reality is slipping: "You need to take a trip over to Logic Lane, buddy."

If you were in doubt as to whether Jerusalem is a dangerous place,
this sign clears things up.

This one is just around the corner from our house on the path along
the River Lark. The first prohibition really is a stick person carrying a
larger-than-possible fish. And running. The middle image
is interesting too.

Signspotting

I guess I'm not the only one on the lookout for funny signs. On our recent trip to Edinburgh we came across an exhibit from http://www.signspotting.com/ where they find ACTUAL funny signs and sell them in the form of t-shirts and books and fridge magnets and the like. Here are some of the funnier ones they had in the exhibit.

Signs: a multi-lingual edition

WARNING: This post contains a photo that may be offensive to some readers. If you have a particular aversion to the f word (yes, THE f word), please do not scroll down.

Jacob had literally just finished eating the exact meal in that photo (Schweinehaxe) when we took a much-needed walk and ran into this sign for the Kalorienweg ("calorie way"). The smaller print gives estimates of how long you'd have to walk to burn off the calories in other meals, but Jacob had obviously just devoured the most calorie-ridden thing they could think of. His meal would have taken (as you can see) an hour and 30 minutes to burn off!

If there was ever a phrase we needed to learn in Welsh, this is it!

Yes, this is an actual town in Austria. There's not much there but these signs--that was enough for us!

What I wonder here is whether they check my nails for health or if that's the part of my future they can see from my palm. ("I foresee a manicure in your near future.")

Yes, this is a razorback! We were disappointed not to have seen one in those 8 kilometres, but at least we saw the great sign! (...and I got to reminisce about my days at the University of Arkansas)

This sign was in the laundry facility of our campground in France's Loire Valley in May. I get it--they're saying that sink is for washing clothes. But what on earth is that logo on the shirt--a kangaroo?

Signs again

We've continued to collect photos of signs we think are funny. Instead of leaving our comments about the signs, we want to hear yours. If you have a comment about one of these signs, post it in the comments section!

Everywhere Signs (Part III)

Funny signs are EVERYWHERE! Since I have so many to share in this post, I'm not giving individual details (i.e. locations); I hope you don't mind. This first pair is interesting; in Nick's defense, we encountered the horse before we saw the sign.

There are some signs that are very castle-specific; remember it's the expressive figures that are funny and not so much the words. Here are a few favorites (or should I say favourites):
Here are a couple of miscellaneous offerings that might elicit a laugh (or at least a smile).
Nick and I were pretty baffled when we saw this bug sign. What do you think it means? The next one was on the same street, and we really enjoyed it. Is it a joke? (Note the times--it's in a very busy pedestrian zone.)
A particularly funny (and ubiquitous) theme of signs is represented in the next few. They don't just TELL you to pick up after your dog, they have lovely illustrations (and steep fines) that really reinforce the message.
