Difficult Goodbyes

(by Rachel)

As excited as we are about moving to England, there are some difficult steps along the way, including a few sets of goodbyes. Only saying goodbye to close family members will be more difficult than the goodbyes I had to say yesterday. After over 3 years of working at the Credit Union, I will really miss my coworkers, especially my amazing boss Paula. (We're posing below with Scott, the President - CEO, whom I will also miss.)

Fortunately I'm still going to be working for Paula from England. As excited as I am about continuing our working relationship, I know things won't be the same, and it's difficult to accept this change, even though I'm really looking forward to living in England. Paula and I have grown close over these years, and I'm going to miss her like crazy.

My coworkers threw me an English tea party yesterday, which was fun and very thoughtful. This photo, taken at the tea party, includes everyone in our office, whom I worked with every day; I will miss those daily interactions! Even though the party was fun and the food was delicious, I do admit to crying twice during the tea party.

(I feel I should note that Carol--on the far left--doesn't normally dress that way; she dressed as an English tea maid just for my party yesterday. Very cute!)

On another note, things are getting really busy with other preparations for our move. Our visas were approved (which is a huge relief), Jacob delivered our car to the port this week, and the movers start packing our things Monday. As we get closer to our actual move, it gets even more exciting!

It's Official!

Welcome to the blog of Jacob and Rachel Lund.

(This is a recent--but not a great--picture of us; I'm practicing uploading images.)
We’ve known for 10 months that we're moving to England, and now we have official orders—it’s really happening! We are extremely excited to live in England for the next 3-5 years! We're starting this blog with the hope it will be our means of keeping you updated on our European adventures. We will post entries often, including pictures of our activities.

Specifically we’re moving to Suffolk County, where Jacob will be working at RAF Lakenheath. The Lakenheath area itself is rural, but we’re only 25 miles from Cambridge and 80 miles from London. (See the green arrow below, map courtesy of Google Maps.)

Right now we’re scheduled to leave Albuquerque the morning of Saturday, February 16, 2008; we’ll arrive in London early in the morning on Sunday, February 17, 2008. We have a lot to do in the next few weeks to prepare, and we hope to blog about all the highlights.
Welcome to the blog. (We plan to get better at blogging as we go.)
